gas. we've been told by u.s. sources those precursor chemicals have been preloaded now into aerial bombs that could be dropped from the fighter bombers onto the syrian people. as of this afternoon there is still no indication that the syrians have actually put -- attempted to put those weapons on aircraft or that there's been a final fatal order from president assad to carry out any kind of attack. so it appears right now that they are in at least the preparation mode, but they're really just one step away from actually carrying out those chemical weapons attacks. we heard secretary panetta say today that the latest intelligence on what's going on with those chemical weapons is very concerns to have specifically. in regard to the remark from one u.s. official that if president assad actually gives the order to go ahead and carry out the attack, there's very little that the outside world could do. that's in reference to a preemptive kind of attempt to prevent the strike from happening. it would be just too difficult logistically and militarily to intervene. for example, if you tried

. in fact, system wide yesterday we saw about 1,600 flights canceled across the u.s., hundreds of them were here at the new york airports but as of today so far just about 50 or so in and out of laguardia. about the same for jfk and newark. one of the big reasons, the weather is improving. we're still seeing some low ceilings here but the rain has all but moved out of new york city and those winds which have been the big problem have died down in to the teens so that's really no issue for the pilots here. what is still an issue, though, is the fact that so many people are traveling for the holidays, trying to get home from the holidays or get to the next holiday destination for the new year and unfortunately we have another storm system that's going to be working its way in to the northeast in the next couple of days, just in time for the new yore's holiday so, in fact, we could see more stranded travelers over the weekend in and out of new york city. from la guard yarks i'm meteorologist julie martin of the weather channel. back to you, craig. >> thanks to you. >>> coming up, the latest on

's either 26 or 27 fatal shooting victims, the worst school shooting in recent u.s. history. the other question is whether it was just one person or two. the best information as of this hour is that it's just one. there was a second person taken in to custody for questioning but we have seen no indication that the person was involved in the shooting. just happened to be there coincidentally and the authorities were questioning that person to see what additional information that he could provide about the shooting. what the movements were of ryan lanza before the shooting, we don't know precisely when we acquired the guns. i'm sure we'll know that shortly but that's the detail to work out now. >> all right. justice correspondent pete williams there for us in d.c. do want to ask you just a couple of questions. what's happening at that house in hoboken, new jersey, right now? what can you tell us? >> any address that he's been connected with, police are searching. this is a standard thing to do in one of these situations. as soon as you find out the identity of the person, you immediately
